An inspiring guest lecture was held at the Faculty of Information Technology, University “Mediterranean” Podgorica, led by Dr. Bojana Femić-Radosavović on the topic “Startup Mindset for IT Students – From Idea to Validation.”
During the lecture, students had the opportunity to gain insight into the real journey of developing an idea – from its initial concept to market validation. A special emphasis was placed on the fact that a good idea alone is not enough; success depends on a deep understanding of the problem, working with users, and the willingness to continuously test, learn, and adapt.
Dr. Femić highlighted the importance of the startup mindset, which implies an approach that begins not with the solution, but with the problem. Students learned why it is crucial to develop products that meet real user needs rather than relying on the assumptions of the creators themselves.
The lecture also covered practical topics such as identifying the right problem, the importance of teamwork, and the use of tools such as stakeholder mapping and the innovation canvas. In addition, discussions focused on market readiness of ideas and methods of validation.
This lecture represented a valuable opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and develop an entrepreneurial way of thinking, which is indispensable in today’s IT industry.
The lecture is in line with the core objectives of the HMI2MARKET project (https://hmi2market.eu/), as it fosters the development of entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking among students. In this way, it contributes to strengthening university infrastructures for accelerating innovations, with a particular focus on accessible support in the early stages of idea development.
We sincerely thank Dr. Bojana Femić for her inspiring and educational lecture.
