Meeting of Generations – FIT Alumni Day Inspires Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Faculty of Information Technology of the University “Mediterranean” Podgorica (FIT) proudly hosted its Alumni Day – Meeting of Generations on April 2nd 2026, bringing together former and current students, professors, and partners, strengthening the bonds of the wider academic and professional community.

The gathering combined formal and informal elements: registration and welcome addresses from the Rector of the University, Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty, alumni and student representatives, presentation of students’ projects, alumni lectures, and the informal networking session. Participants were also introduced to the activities of the FIT Student Association (USFITUM), with Alumni Day itself standing out as its latest initiative.

Newly accredited course Distributed Software Development was presented to the participants, emphasizing international collaboration and preparing the ground for student project presentations. The main concept of this course is collaborative student work on real-life projects, including practical assignments that mirror industry challenges.

The idea behind the course is to enable FIT students, in cooperation with peers from partner universities abroad, to jointly develop solutions for real-world problems. Their work is monitored both by professors and by external stakeholders acting as project clients, ensuring that students gain experience not only in technical implementation but also in communication, teamwork, and responding to client requirements. This approach strengthens entrepreneurial skills, nurtures innovation, and prepares students for the demands of the global IT market.

After the short introduction of the course, students presented innovative team projects, demonstrating practical skills and readiness for the modern IT environment. Alumni contributed by sharing advice and personal experiences of their professional journeys in building careers in Montenegro and abroad, highlighting how knowledge gained at FIT can be transformed into successful professional ventures. The informal networking session provided space for dialogue, mentorship, and the creation of new professional connections, reinforcing FIT’s role as a hub for the Montenegrin ICT ecosystem.

Students showcased their teamwork, creativity, and readiness for the modern IT environment, while alumni shared inspiring career stories.

Alumni Day and the HMI2MARKET Vision

Beyond celebrating FIT’s community, Alumni Day directly supports the mission of the HMI2MARKET project, which seeks to activate and elevate the entrepreneurial potential of higher education institutions, through several key takeaways:

  • Inspiring innovation and entrepreneurial spirit: By connecting alumni with students, FIT fosters an environment where academic knowledge and professional experience merge, encouraging confidence, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking that can evolve into market-ready innovations.
  • Bridging generations, research, and practice: Student presentations and alumni lectures illustrated how academic projects and prototypes can move closer to market-ready applications, showing students the pathways from classroom ideas to professional implementation.
  • Inclusive and human-centric impact: Alumni stories highlighted diverse career paths and challenges, motivating students to design technologies that empower different social groups and contribute to safer, more inclusive workplaces.
  • Strengthening ecosystems and connections: The event reinforced FIT’s role in Montenegro’s ICT community, aligning with HMI2MARKET’s goal of fostering regional innovation ecosystems through collaboration among universities, industry, and technology hubs.
  • Supporting green and digital transitions: Discussions and networking emphasized the importance of sustainable, safe, and future-oriented IT solutions, values at the core of HMI2MARKET and essential for preparing students to contribute to Europe’s digital and green transformation.

Alumni Day once again demonstrated the importance of intergenerational exchange, not only as a celebration of community but also as a strategic step toward building innovation-driven, entrepreneurial higher education. By linking academic excellence with professional experience, FIT contributes to the broader European mission of advancing human-centric technologies and strengthening the digital and green transitions.
