The Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) was established in 2006 as the first private faculty in Montenegro dedicated to the field of Information Technology (IT). Since its establishment, FIT has been committed to the development of modern higher education, scientific research and professional activities in the field of information technology, with the aim of educating professionals capable of responding to the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s digital society.

The Faculty provides higher education through first- and second-cycle academic study programmes, as well as through scientific research and professional activities. The study programmes are based on the principles defined by the Bologna Declaration for the European Higher Education Area. Curricula and learning outcomes are continuously aligned with the needs of the IT industry and the recommendations of international professional associations in the fields of electrical engineering and computing, including IEEE and ACM. This ensures the international comparability of the study programmes and provides students with opportunities to continue their education at comparable higher education institutions in Europe and worldwide.

Particular attention is devoted to the practical application of knowledge, the development of critical thinking, independent problem-solving skills, and students’ ability to adapt to technological and social changes. FIT promotes project- and problem-based learning, through which students connect theoretical knowledge with practical work and solving problems arising from real-world environments. Through cooperation with leading global companies, such as Oracle, Microsoft and Cisco, as well as domestic IT companies and IT faculties in Europe and the region, students are provided with opportunities for professional internships, research activities, and international mobility programmes that enable them to spend part of their studies at partner universities in the EU and the wider region. By participating in real-world projects, students acquire practical skills necessary for solving problems in the field of IT, strengthening their employability after completing their undergraduate studies and preparing them to engage effectively in contemporary professional environments.

The Faculty places particular emphasis on the development of academic integrity, professional ethics and responsibility as fundamental pillars of quality education, scientific research and the work of the academic community. FIT promotes a culture in which knowledge, research and professional practice are grounded in the principles of honesty, responsibility, transparency, respect for others, and adherence to academic and professional standards.

The quality of the Faculty’s work is based on the principle of continuous improvement of study programmes, teaching methods, scientific research and professional activities, the competencies of academic and administrative staff, the student experience, infrastructure, library and information resources, as well as lifelong learning. In this process, the Faculty pays particular attention to feedback from students, staff, employers and other relevant stakeholders.
